It feels like Christmas around here — basically for the last nine months! First we got two new Chalk Paint™ whites, followed by two new neutrals, and then we were completely spoiled with the three limited edition Charleston colours. And now there are TWO MORE new colours.
At first I thought I could throw all this exciting news at you in one post, but with nine beautiful new shades, that’s just going to make us all dizzy. So, this will be the first of four posts showcasing the new colours.
First, the whites.
Everything kicked off with a change to Annie’s whites. Being the top selling Chalk Paint shades, changing something so popular was a bit of a transition. But let me tell you, it is so worth it! One white was added, one was shifted, one stayed the same — and now everyone can find their perfect white.
The biggest news: the old Old White is out. Gone. But don’t despair — there’s a new Old White in town.
The new Old White is a cool soft white with a slight greyish undertone — different from the old Old White which had a strong yellow tone.
(Confused yet? Don’t worry, it’s all going to be worth it!)

OLD WHITE
Here’s Annie’s description Old White: “The colour of chalk and gesso, a cool soft white without pink or yellow in it. A colour which works with everything. For the quintessential French look use over Paris Grey.”

OLD WHITE
Old White is already Miss Popular around the shop. Customers love that it’s a soft white — less bright than Pure White — but has a gentleness to it without any yellow. Perfect when you want something white, but not too sharp. Also a great colour for mixing down your other Chalk Paint™ colours.
Next up, Original.
We were over-the-moon to finally get Original — a colour previously only available in Europe. Original is a warm white with a slight creaminess. But, very importantly, it’s not as yellow as the old Old White.

ORIGINAL
I know some of you loved the old Old White, but for the most part, our customers overwhelmingly told us it was far too yellowy. For those of you familiar with the colours, think of Original as like mixing the old Old White and Pure White together 1:1 (which many of our customers used to do). So now it’s much easier — no more mixing, just get Original and paint!

ORIGINAL
About Original, Annie says, “A warm, slightly creamy, traditional white, Original is the colour of old painted furniture. It is perfectly paired with Duck Egg Blue, Antoinette and Louis Blue for a delicate old distressed French look.”
If you’re looking for a warm winter white, or something for a more antiqued look, Original is for you.
Last but not least, Pure White. No change here! Pure White is still the same, just a nice cool, clean white.
Here’s what Annie has to say about Pure: “Perfect for modern interiors, this cool, clean white makes a crisp contrast with strong colours.”

PURE WHITE
Good to know about Pure: it has the least covering power of all the colours so may require a few coats or apply over a coat of Country Grey.
Needing a little more info about the whites? Here’s a handy little chart to help you out…
And of course, at Malenka Originals, we have samples of all three whites, and you can also see how they each look with Dark Wax and Black wax, too.
And for anyone who is really missing the old Old White, it’s pretty easy to make. Just mix a bit of Old Ochre or Cream into any of the whites until you get the right tone.
Pop in soon to see for yourself! I think you’ll be pretty happy about the change.
